Privacy Statement

When you visit our web sites, you leave electronic traces of your passing: on our computer, on your computer, and quite possibly on a computer or computers between yours and ours. This is true of the entire Web, and most of the non-Web Internet. This statement addresses what we do and don't do with the information we get.
FISLY and LAZEF are committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. We have created this Privacy Statement in order to demonstrate our firm commitment to privacy. This privacy statement sets out the privacy policy for the sites of FISLY.org or LAZEF.be (*) and explains what we do with the personal information that we collect from our users.
Please read the following to understand our views and practices regarding personal information, and how they pertain to you as you use our various features and services. This statement discloses the current privacy practices for our web sites. If we make any substantive changes to this policy, we'll announce it on our sites. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this statement, you should contact either the site coordinator at FISLY.org or LAZEF.be.

This Privacy Statement answers the following questions:

What Information do we gather about our visitors?

A server might automatically collect non-personal information about you that is anonymous data. A server can recognize the consumer's domain name, but not the email address. Examples of this information include the length and time of your visit, the pages you looked at on our site, the type of Internet Browser you have, and the site you visited just before coming to ours. It is collected in aggregate form and then discarded. We use this information to develop ideas for improving our site and to measure site activity.

We also collect IP addresses to help us understand how our audience uses our site, so that we can make our site better and improve our users' overall experience when they visit our web sites. For these same reasons, if your browser is set up to accept them, we could use a feature known as a "cookie." Cookies contain bits of information that web sites transfer to your computer's hard drive for record keeping purposes. Cookies can make the Web more useful by storing information about your preferences on a particular site such as ours. Although we may assign your browser a cookie, it doesn't tell us who you are. Only you can do that.

How do we use your personal information?

We might conduct research on our users' demographics, interests, and behavior based on the information you provide us when you register, participate in a contest or other promotion on our site, or from our server log files. This research is compiled and analyzed only on an aggregated basis. We do this to better understand our users and improve your overall experience when using our service. We may also notify you of a new product or new area of our site that we think may interest you based on the information you have provided us. If you'd prefer us not to contact you, simply let us know.

Sometimes we ask for personal information when providing special, personalized service. If you don't want to give us that information, you certainly don't have to, but you may not be able to take advantage of certain products or services.

There are opportunities on our web site for you to send us email messages. All those email addresses actively submitted to us by visitors are used solely by our employees to provide you the requested information.

There are opportunities on our web site for you to fill in some forms by which means we collect a limited amount of information about our readers, so that we can provide a site that is more interesting and useful, as well as provide advertising that is more appropriate for our readers. We ask for your name, email address, and other personal information when you register to use our message boards, portfolios, or (eventually) chat areas, or if you sign up for any special or personalized service such as a subscription or newsletter service. You have the right to cancel a subscription at any time without notice.

How do we use cookies and "IP Addresses"?

IP addresses

We use IP addresses to analyze trends, administer the site, track user's movement and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.

Cookies

At this time, we do not use cookies.

Cookies are electronic tags that most major web sites place on your computer in the process of your computer a file, such as a web page. In essence, a cookie is a unique bit of computer code that is placed on your computer the first time you visit a site. It tells when a computer that has previously visited a site returns, and it identifies your computer's browser and operating system to help make the best connection.

If you would prefer not to receive any cookies, most browsers can be set to refuse cookies or to alert you when one is being sent. It is possible, however, that some portions of a site may not function properly if the cookies are disabled.

Will we disclose any of your personal information?

We will not disclose any information about individual users, except as described in this Privacy Statement, or to comply with applicable laws or valid legal process, or to protect our rights or property.

We do not give, rent, lend, or sell individual information to any third party, only aggregate information, except for the information that might be published on our own web sites. For example, we might tell advertisers that there are that many registered users, but we won't tell them that Superman is one of them, and we won't tell them that his email address is ckent@dailyplanet.com. We might also use this aggregated information to help the advertisers reach the kind of audience they want. In this process, the advertiser never has access to individual account information. Only our own employees have access to individuals' data.

We may also disclose aggregate information in order to describe our services to prospective partners, advertisers, and other third parties and for other lawful purposes.

What about security features?

Please be careful and responsible whenever you're online.

Will we use your information for direct mailings?

How will we handle changes to our Privacy Statement?

We may make changes to this Privacy Statement at any time. If we decide to change our Privacy Policy, we will post those changes in here so our users are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under which circumstances, if any, we disclose it. If at any point we decide to use personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time it was collected, we will notify users by way of an email.
